Recently, Kelley Blue Book announced the roster of vehicles that earned places of honor on the KBB.com "10 Best Back-to-School Cars" list. Editors start by sorting through all vehicles that have a Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price of less than $20,000, and then pare the list down to the 10 vehicles they feel offer parents and students the best combination of value, safety and style. This year, the 2017 Kia Soul merited a spot on the list, with editors calling it a "practical, feature-filled, respectable small car."
Kia offers the Soul in three trim levels, each of which comes with its own engine: Soul Base, Soul Plus (+) and Soul Exclaim (!). The Soul Base has a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that you can match with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The Soul Plus offers a 2.0-liter inline-4 that comes with a 6-speed automatic, and the Soul Exclaim features a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 that is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
