How to Jump a Vehicle

It is a good idea to learn how to jump-start a car. You will need jumper cables. They are marked or colored. Red is positive and black is negative. Set the emergency brake on both vehicles.

• Attach the positive cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
• Attach the positive cable to the positive terminal of the live battery.
• Attach the negative cable to the negative terminal of the live battery.
• Attach the negative cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery.

Once you begin clamping, be careful not to touch any metal or the car with the live jumper cable. Start the operational vehicle, and let it run for several minutes then start the dead car.

After a jump, recharge the once dead battery by driving the car around for 30 minutes or longer, and be sure to contact our service department at Kia of West Nyack to have your car inspected after any jump start.
