At Kia of West Nyack serving West Nyack, NY shoppers, we want to help our customers get the most out of the automobiles. If you have a vehicle with four-wheel drive, you get improved capability on challenging terrain. However, it's important that you know when to use 4-Low and 4-High when you're driving in four-wheel drive to maximize performance.
Most drivers will choose 4H more than 4L. With 4H, you can drive at faster speeds while torque is being sent to all four wheels for more grip than two-wheel drive. This setting allows you to drive at speeds up to 55 mph.
Drivers typically reserve 4L for serious conditions. This setting can be used when you're climbing rocks, traveling up steep inclines, or powering through deep mud, sand, or water. When you're in 4L, it's important that you keep your speed under 10 mph. This is because the significant amount of torque that's being transferred to the wheels will cause them to turn slower than usual.
